The battle was a ficticious encounter, set in the Carolinas region of North America. The Patriots, being outnumbered, were initially on the defensive and the British advanced onto the table with the weight of their forces on their right flank. The Hessians quickly ran into trouble as they blundered and half of the brigade decided to fall back instead of advance, slowing the deployment of the British forces.
The Americans quickly occupied the farmhouse in the centre and built their main defence on this area. As the game progressed they decided to attack the British left flank and managed to drive off the Indians in the woods, mauling the Queens rangers of Mathews brigade. Perhaps bouyed by this they attacked the British centre with cavalry and infantry, which was less sucessful. The guards that held the centre quickly sent the Yanks packing destroying the cavalry with withering musket fire.
At the end of the game the Americans claimed a tactical victory having achieved more of their objectives than the British but it still looked more like a draw.
As ever Black Powder provided us with a fun, easy game which was played out in a good spirit by all of the players involved.
