Hello again. Welcome back to the continuing voyages of the Rogue Trader ship “Seraph” and her crew as they explore the dangerous and deadly Koronus Expanse searching for fame, wealth and glory.
Klaxons wailed and emergency lights flashed as the first shuttle returned to the Seraph. Augur displays showed that two raider vessels, Kallian Varr’s “Void Drake” and Dania Varr’s “Red Witch”had emerged from the planets rocky rings and were moving to attack positions. Manoeuvering the Seraph to protect the second shuttle load of crew from Jerazols surface, the explorers prepared for battle. Trading long range macrobattery fire proved next to useless in the dense rocky debris fields, augurs had dificulty picking up the vessels of both sides and shots truck either empty space or rock as both sides angled for advantage. All of this gave time, however, for the rest of the crew to make it back to the ship and organise the defence properly.
Reaching the bridge, Lord Captain Felkin Stross began to bellow orders to his crew, servitors and crewmen rushing to follow them. Targeting solutions were calculated, engines brought to full power and shields to full strength. Inspired by their captains presence the crew responded expertly. Bringing the “Void Drake” into close range with a dazzling series of maoeuvres the Seraph’s Sunsear laser batteries opened up. Great beams of energy smashed through the void shields and scored huge lines of destruction along its port flank and on into the vessels engines. A large cloud of venting plasma told the Seraphs gunners that they had damaged something important and it soon became apparent as to what. Trying desperately to hide amongst the dense debris fields, the raider vessel seemed almost uncontrolled, smashing headlong into a large asteroid and smashing the rock to pieces.
Wary now, the twin pirate vessels refused to come closer, using their superior manoeuverability to target the Seraph’s vulnerable aft sections with concentrated laser fire. However, due to the difficulties of battling in the planets ring system, it was becoming clear that neither side could gain an immediate advantage. Trying to bluff a surrender, Kallian Varr gave the Seraph an ultimatum: Surrender or be destroyed. Not one to be easily intimidated, Stross gave the order to disengage. Firing its thrusters and powering down its systems the Seraph attempted to hide amongst the spinning rocks of the planets rings…The ruse worked and, after a ten hour search, the raiders left the system rather than waste valuable time. At the after battle briefing the crew decided to set course for that den of iniquity known as Footfall. Following a ‘short’ delay, while Kiara the Navigator worked on some formulas, the Seraph entered the warp and left Jerazol behind.
Her calculations appeared to be accurate as the Seraph arrived at Footfall in four days rather than the fifteen that had been estimated and the crew quickly disembarked, their intention being to find anyone who may have access to the reader unit necessary to decode the Gullivat Puzzle Orb. Splitting into two groups, one lead by Felkin Stross, the other by First Officer Synna Lucaris, the explorers entered that den of thieves known as Footfall.
After several hours inquiring at dockside taverns and traders, Synna’s group realised that they were being followed by a buzzing servo skull. Before they could avoid it it scanned Duke the astropath and, upon appearing to recognise him, projected a holo image of the man-machine that is Tanthus Moross, the Liege of Footfall. The image greeted them politely and requested the explorers presence at a great feast to be held at the Lieges Court that evening. On acceptance of this unlooked for boon, the servo-skull transmitted the details of the feast to Synna’s dataslate and moved off into the crowd.
Felkins group had less success in finding what they sought, being accosted by the officials of the Administratum Oeconomica soon after leaving the ship. The extremely important looking officials requested that Stross and his companions (Mardonius, Caz and Kiara), accompany them to their offices to fill out the required paperwork that would allow them to trade. Stross agreed to accompany them despite realising that one of the “officials” wore the epaulettes of a Grand Admiral of the Battlefleet Calixis! The officials led them, after a winding journey, to a disused warehouse where they were promptly ambushed by Stross and his companions! Waving his plasma pistol (yes, Stross owns one…) the Rogue Trader attempted to gain information from the wretched scum concerning the Kasabillica Mission, cold traders with a dark reputation. Their reputation was so dark, however, that the scum would give up little, save to direct the explorers to the Spire of Intoxicants, the holdings of the Narco-Gangers of Footfall. Dejected, but carrying the officials gear, Stross and the others returned to the ship and Synna’s news of the invitation.
And so we leave the crew until next time, dressing themselves in the finest clothing they can find, brushing up on their manners and debating the etiquette of carrying heavy weapons to a fine party…
